Corinth – Mycenae – Nafplio – Bourtzi – Epidaurus theater – Palaia Epidauros small theater

 

The tour has as starting point your hotel or the select by you location. At about one hour distance from the city of Athens. We have the opportunity to visit the famous Corinth Canal that connects the Corinthian Gulf and the Saronic Gulf.

Then we visit the ancient city of Corinth, which has been described as the richest city of the ancient world, since it held the sights of the most important commercial center in ancient Greece. There we will enjoy viciting the Temple of Apollo, the Pirinia Fountain and many other ancient findings of the wider region kept in the Archaeological Museum.

Our next stop, the ancient city of Mycenae in the area of Argolida, where we will see the tomb of Agamemnon, the Cyclopean Walls, the Lions Gate and the Archaeological Museum of the area.

Next and favorite station is the enchanting Nafplio with the impressive Palamidi, the Venetian fortress that dominates the city. You will even see the Bourtzi Castle, located in the middle of the harbor, built on an island. Here, we deserve a break to enjoy our lunch and have fun at a traditional Greek restaurant.

Then we will visit the ancient city of Epidaurus where we will have the unique opportunity to see its ancient theater closely and to discover its excellent acoustics by ourselves.

The Corinth Canal

The Corinth Canal is a man made canal in Greece, that connects the Gulf of Corinth in the Ionian Sea with the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea. It cuts through the narrow Isthmus of Corinth and separates the Peloponnese from the Greek mainland, arguably making the peninsula an island.

Lions Gate of Mycenae

The Lion Gate is the main entrance to the Acropolis of Mycenae, the main center of Mycenaean Civilization. The gate was built in the middle of the 13th century BC, during the second expansion of the fortifications in Mycenae when Atreas was king.

Nafplion - Bourtzi

Known for Bourtzi, a small fortress built on an island in the port. From 1930 the castle was transformed into a hotel, which operated until 1970. Today, together with Palamidi, it is the symbol of the city of Nafplio. Palamidi, is a Venetian fortress that dominates the city, for Akronafplia (Turk. Its-Kale), another Venetian fortress, on the homonymous peninsula. Ioannis Kapodistrias was murdered at the entrance of the picturesque church of Agios Spyridon.

Epidavrus Theater

The ancient theater of Epidaurus is located at the southeastern end of the sanctuary which was dedicated to the healing god of antiquity, Asclepius, at the Asclepieion of Epidaurus. It is built on the western slope of Mount Kinorti. It is located near today's Ligourio of Argolida and belongs to the Municipality of Epidaurus

The Little Theatre

The Small Theater of Epidaurus, situated in an area known as Nisi, close to the port of Palea Epidaurus, once served as the ancient city-state's theater. Beyond its role in hosting dramatic performances, this venue was a site for religious and political celebrations. Unearthed in the early 1970s beneath an olive tree field, the ongoing restoration of this theater showcases its historical significance.
